Our Story – The Vision of Sendlane
They say there are two types of companies out there in the world:
The ones who practice what they preach and the ones that sell what they THINK people want.
Sendlane is the first.
The founders (myself, Zak, and Anik) are email marketers.
We’ve been at the ground floor. We all built businesses solely on the single channel of email marketing. And between the three of us, we carry over 35 years of digital marketing experience.
The three of us have used email marketing for all our different companies and business models: from affiliate marketing to digital marketing, local businesses to eCommerce stores, and even as an agency.
But back in 2013, as all our businesses grew, we started to run into problems with other email service providers. They lacked the flexibility and functionality we were looking for, and just didn’t seem to fully understand what digital businesses needed.
And when we found ones that did address our needs, they came with $150,000 a year price tags, paid up front, annually. Plus, they required special on-boarding and pricey consultants to get set up.
As entrepreneurs, we knew the other platforms out there just weren’t right for our own businesses. So instead of settling, we chose to solve the problem ourselves, and decided to create our very own email platform… One that worked for us.
And that’s when Sendlane was born!
Over the next two years, we created a tool that fit our needs. An email marketing platform we loved to use because it was easy, and worked really well.
Now here’s the funny part about Sendlane…
We never intended to offer it as a service to the public. We created it for ourselves because we wanted more for our own businesses.
But with tremendous pressure from our friends and followers, we decided to allow the first customer to walk through our virtual door in 2015.
And then our journey really began!
Since 2015, Sendlane Has Evolved Multiple Times
In our initial release, our first platform was designed to be an easier, more nimble version of tools like MailChimp, iContact, AWeber, or Constant Contact. You know, just basic email marketing.
Though we had very similar set of features, we did do one thing better than any of those platforms: we understood our customers and their desires to grow and evolve in their own businesses.
In the summer of 2017 we released our next iteration (version 2.0) which is when we came out with behavior- and action-based email marketing automation.
This advanced us forward and helped us start to create separation between our initial set of competitors and what we strived to achieve with Sendlane.
In December of 2018, we partnered with Zing Capital, with an investment of $2 million into Sendlane, to help us race to our final vision:
“To be the best marketing automation platform for digital marketers.”
And though that’s a bold statement, it’s what we believe in and strive for.
The Vision of Sendlane – 2019 And Beyond
That brings us to today.
It’s March of 2019 and we just rolled out the next generation of Sendlane.
